    Features
Power bank chargers are the mode of choice relative to the legacy on-the-go solutions of finding an outlet to plug in a wall charger or swapping out the cellphone battery for a spare fully charged one; the drawbacks of wall charging are obvious, replacing cellphone batteries can be a big hassle (certainly the case for my Evo Design 4G), and they tend to be poor investments in that they are almost never compatible with other cellphones one might migrate to in the future, let alone enable on to charge another device such as a tablet or MP3 player. This PowerGen 5200mAh power bank charger represents for me the optimal balance of physical format, charging capacity, and price:
    - It is compact and lightweight, yet has the capacity for 2-3 full charges of a typical current smartphone such as my HTC Evo Design 4G.
    - It sits well in the hand for using the built-in flashlight capability yet slides into and fits easily even in relatively small pockets.
    - Its capacity to provide several cellphone charges before needing to re-charge the battery pack seems sufficient for most users, and its compact size and reasonable weight relative to those aspects of most smartphones means one is less likely to leave it behind when out and about. This combination makes far more sense for most users' needs than the more expensive, higher capacity chargers that often exceed the size and weight of one's phone itself.

    Function
The unit's user interface is nicely designed, with well thought out LED status indicators and straightforward on/off and flashlight control functions, and the charger has worked well for me. One needs to have reasonable expectations for how long it takes to fully re-charge a depleted smartphone battery (it is certainly not instantaneous), but one is able to use most phones while charging and it is not too cumbersome to hold both the charger and phone in one hand when immediate phone use is necessary. In terms of appearance, it is a sleek and attractive unit, especially with the slick looking blue LEDs.

    Improvement Suggestion
Since the power bank employs a micro-USB interface for charging it back up, it would be nice to package 2 micro-USB adapter tips with the unit. This would enable users whose cellphones use a micro-USB charging interface to keep an adapter on each of the provided cables: both the short cable for connecting the power bank to the phone while out and about, and the longer cable that permits re-charging the power bank itself and is probably left at home by most users under daily usage conditions. This would make it easier to recharge the unit in case one misplaces the relatively tiny short cable after having attached the micro-USB adapter tip, and would also reduce the risk of heading back out with the short cable minus the adapter tip.

    Overall Assessment
A great external power bank charger that relieves worries about running out of juice when on-the-go, especially under high battery depleting cellphone conditions like 4G use in mission-critical applications like trying to redeem a Groupon or Living Social coupon via smartphone app while in a restaurant. At a price $6 less than what I paid just a couple of months ago on Amazon, this PowerGen charger represents excellent value.

Well, I haven't felt compelled enough to review an item on amazon until now. I bought the PowerGen Mobile 5200mAh battery pack at the recommendation of a friend. I have had it for several months and initially, it was great! Especially living in new york city when most people often leave their homes at 7-8AM and don't return home until 7-8PM. As a woman, keeping this in my purse has been a total lifesaver. UNTIL, however, about a month ago, when it stopped receiving a full charge. One day it just stopped lighting up past the 1st two dots of light, regardless of how many times I unplugged and plugged it back in or how long I left it charging. IT GETS WORSE. I'm not sure the mechanics of how this happened, but it killed my iphone 4s wall charger adapter. First the battery pack stopped holding a full charge (only charging to 50% and then not charging at all), and then the wall adapter itself stopped working entirely. So I was left without a battery pack charger and then without a regular iphone wall charger! I had to order a new wall charger off of amazon with 1 day shipping (thank goodness for amazon prime). The concept of having an external battery pack is great, but not at the expense of it lasting less than 6 months and then also killing your regular wall adapter.
Secondly, I recommended this battery pack to a friend before I started experiencing any problems with it. My friend had his battery pack for about 2-3 weeks before it, too, stopped receiving a full charge. At least it didn't kill his wall charger, but still -- utter waste of money.
I did a search through the reviews and noticed I'm not the one who has experienced this problem (battery pack dying out and not charging and also killing the wall charger adapter).

I was very excited to recieve this battery pack but that quickly turned into irritation. I bought the PowerGen Battery pack to use with my phone while I was backpacking for 5 days. My phone is a necessary evil when I'm camping because I use it for music and GPS and the GPS will just burn through my regular phone battery. I have a T-mobile MyTouch 4G and two days after we hiked into the Superstitions my battery died. No problem I thought, I'll just use my PowerGen. So I pulled out the charger and set it up to charge my phone. 2 hours later I had full charge so I unplugged the charger and started using my phone. Much to my surprise the battery was dead within 3 hours. So I charged it again that night and once again in the morning my phone died in 3 hours. Very irritating and my phone had been useless the whole trip!

After the camping trip was over my phone started to act very strange. It would say full charge and then die as soon as I started using it. This happens constantly now and it never had a problem before I used this battery pack. Fast forward to a month later and now this Powergen battery pack must constantly be plugged into my phone during the day to even use my phone. After the hiking trip I pulled the phone battery out and it has a nice unsightly bulge in it so I am guessing this charger either under or over volted it and now its shot....

So, you may be considering dismissing my experience as just a coincidence but consider this, my buddy has an android phone from Verizon that was working fine before the camping trip and I charged it while we were camping... Within a week his battery started acting strange too and now his phone is turning off and on at random times as well.....

The device itself is nice looking and has a lot of juice once fully charged. I am now using it to power my phone nonstop and it will last about two days before needing a charge. It's small enough to fit in your pocket and includes a ton of adapters and plugs. Unfortunately I do not trust it enough now to use it on other devices.

I recommend passing on this device especially if you have a MyTouch 4g phone.
